Jury Duty No-Nos
Just by happenstance this morning, I have discovered two stories about jury duty and how to get yourself in trouble.

The first story comes to us via Michelle Malkin, who points out the sordid tale of a Muslim woman juror who was listening to her MP3 player under her hijab instead of, you know, the testimony before her.

Clearly, a model citizen...

Then I come across this story of a guy who so desperately wants to avoid jury duty that he claims to be homophobic, racist, and a compulsive liar.

...

“In 32 years of service in courtrooms, as a prosecutor, as a defense attorney and now as a judge, I have quite frankly never confronted such a brazen situation of an individual attempting to avoid juror service,” Barnstable Superior Court Judge Gary Nickerson told Daniel Ellis, according to a preliminary court transcript of the exchange.

...

“I have the distinct impression that you’re intentionally trying to avoid jury service,” Nickerson said.

“That’s true,” Ellis answered.

Nickerson ordered Ellis taken into custody. He was released later Monday morning.

Ellis could face perjury and other charges.

Seriously? Seriously? Come on people! Take your civic duty seriously and do the right thing. I can't believe some people...
